The Green Truck Summit kicks off the extensive educational conference at The Work Truck Show® 2013 on March 5. The Summit gives fleet managers and other industry professionals practical ideas and real-world solutions for implementing new green practices.

The Green Truck Summit, presented by International Truck, is produced jointly by NTEA and CALSTART. It runs March 5−6, 2013. The Work Truck Show 2013 trade show floor is open March 6−8, with educational sessions starting March 5. The Green Truck Summit and The Work Truck Show are held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN.

“This event has really grown over the last few years as people have seen the positive impact new clean technology can have on their operations,” says Doyle Sumrall, NTEA senior director of business development. “The Green Truck Summit is a can’t-miss event for forward-thinking fleet managers and anyone looking to gain a competitive advantage through green initiatives.”

Topics for the Green Truck Summit 2013 include clean technology and fuel trends, deployment strategies, viable alternative fuels and funding opportunities. The Summit’s slate of presenters includes a wide range of technical experts and industry leaders, including representatives from truck and engine OEMs, government agencies and fleet operations.

Over its day-and-a-half run, the Green Truck Summit features 24 breakout sessions, five general sessions and two keynote addresses. Keynote speakers will be announced closer to the event.

The first general session, “Trends in Clean Technologies and Fuels,” is presented by Sumrall and CALSTART President and CEO John Boesel. The two will discuss current clean trends and give an outlook for manufacturers, suppliers and fleets. It will take place Tuesday, March 5 at 9:00am.
The other opening day general sessions are “OEM Perspectives on the Future of Clean Technologies,” “Modeling the Benefits of Deploying Green Technologies” and “Optimizing Engines: New Ideas to Be Clean and Efficient.” Breakout sessions scheduled for Tuesday cover propane, hydrogen fuel cells, natural gas, hybrid electric systems, truck updates and more.

The general session on Wednesday, March 6, “Compounding the Green: Incremental Measures for Going Green and Sustainable,” is led by Fred Silver, vice president of CALSTART. This session will address vehicle productivity enhancement, idle management, energy use reduction and sustainable fleet management. It will run 8:45am−9:45am.

Remaining breakout sessions address bi-fuel CNG and LPG systems, turbine-electric trucks and other fuel-saving advancements. Vacaville Kid Fest Is Sat Oct 6th. Downtown Vacaville

Vacaville Kid Fest was started in 1999, when an idea was born to create a "Children's Festival", a place where families could come and have a day of activities with their children at very little or no cost, and also have the opportunity to learn about many of the services and resources that were available to children and families. We adopted the theme "For the Child in all of us".

A group of City of Vacaville representatives, ranging from business owners and managers, nonprofit groups and media people were approached with the idea and met it with enthusiasm. And thus, Kid Fest was born.

The first Kid Fest Core Committee consisted of Shauna Manina, Meaghan O'Neill from Vacaville Police Dept., Linnea Dischinger from Vacaville Fire Dept., Todd Grames and Suzanne Green from Community Services Dept., and Reggie Hubbard from Housing & Redevelopment Dept. Other business people from The Reporter, Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District, and others all committed to the vision of a day of low cost or no cost activities, free resources, and fun.

Our first event in 1999 had 1 stage and 40 booths, with everything from food, crafters and merchandise vendors, a wide range of social service and community nonprofit groups, free children's games and entertainment, bounce houses, and a very strong focus on child safety and health. From the beginning, a large component of the event has been the presence of Vacaville Fire and Police Depts., with their equipment displays, children's fire muster, and safety information.

By 2001, there were 2 stages of entertainment and over 120 booths participating in the event. The committee members have changed over the years, but the event has continued, and become part of the fabric of what makes Vacaville a family oriented community. The focus remains on child and family safety and health.

See more about this wonderful organization at www.VacavilleKidFest.org

See you there!

Running Boards For Trucks - What You Need to Know Before You Purchase the Best Kind

Are running boards for trucks really built to provide a strong foot area you can depend upon? Do they make your truck look like a truck - rugged, tough, sturdy? Or are they a just a fashion accessory that is a fad with truck owners?
The fact is millions of pick up trucks have nerf bars and step up boards as part of the cab. Besides safety, the good thing about running boards is that they are very popular truck accessories. In the after care market, most running boards are built so that most pick up truck owners can install them easily and speedily. And, with the right combination, you can make your truck look sharp, too.
What Materials Form Running Boards?
Running boards for trucks are made with varying materials like steel, stainless steel and chrome. There are some brands made of clad aluminum and polyethylene.
The load capacity ranges anywhere from 300 to 500 pounds, so double check that you get the capacity you require.
You can choose a shiny, dull or matte finish. There are lighted running boards that have a small light that shines under the door, so that you can see the step at night.
Each material adds strength and style to your truck. The surface of each board can be smooth or rough - with an abrasive set of non-slip strips to prevent slipping. Grooved patterns drain water away from the stepping surface. You can also clear your soles of the dirt and grime off before entering, so you protect the carpet and floor mats.
Here Is What To Look For
You need to add the right size and width to match the size of your truck. If you have a one-ton truck with a four wheel rear axle, you don't want to install thin or narrow boards. Your truck would look cheap and out of balance.
No, you want an accessory that matches the character and color of your truck. In fact, a truck without running boards looks like something is missing. The cab appearance seems to be incomplete compared to trucks parked nearby.
Make sure to check out the guarantee you get when you buy your boards online. Some manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty, others have a three year warranty on mild steel products.
What are the Best Types for Trucks?
The best brands include Romik, Westin, Dee Zee, Challenger, Nasta, Gladiator, Ionic Railway and Billet running boards. Most running boards are built exactly to fit the make, model and year of your truck.
So, if you own a Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Dodge, Honda, Acura, GMC, or other make of truck, all you have to do is order the boards made for your vehicle.
Why is that important? The reason is that these boards come with custom mounting hardware that attach directly into factory-drilled holes in your truck frame. You don't have to drill holes. All you have to do is line up the parts and fasten the bolts until they are secure.
Summary
Running boards for trucks are very popular for many makes and models of trucks that provide a safe stepping surface and make your truck look sharp. When you know what to look for when you buy them, you can find discounts and deals and make sure you put the best set on your pick up truck.

How To Install SeatSavers from Covercraft Industries

Saving seats from...
• Kids
• Dogs
• Dirt & spills
• Workday grime
• Weekend adventures

Keep seats looking new for years with slip-on SeatSaver seat protectors. Custom fitted, they provide protection from sun, dirt, outdoor fun, and abuse during the workweek, to help keep seats looking new. Travel in comfort - breathable, heavy duty polycotton fabric won't give that "sticky" feeling that neoprene or vinyl seat covers will. If the SeatSavers become soiled, just throw them into a home washer and dryer and then slip them back on.

Dirty dog? Kids with ice cream cones? Potted plants? Fun in the sun? Messy mechanic and greasy tools? Stop worrying, with SeatSaver seat protectors leather and velour seats are safe. The fabric is protected with a DWR (durable water repellency) finish that blocks most "accidents" from reaching the seats. Like a great pair of jeans, SeatSavers get softer and more comfortable with each washing (but we recommend you re-spray the DWR after every 5 or 6 washings).
•Custom fitted, easy on / easy off
•Stop UV rays to protect seat finish
•Heavy-duty polycotton drill weave
•Fabric "breathes" -- no "sticky" back
•Throw in washer/dryer when dirty
•Overlapped double-stitched seams
•No tools needed to install / remove

Fifth Wheel Travel Trailer - Safety Tips in Towing, Parking and Breaking

If you have not experienced towing your fifth wheel travel trailer there are safety tips that can help you each time you encounter this kind of problem. It is not like towing your car, your pickup. It is responsibility you have to take with care and safety should be your foremost concern. Safety is very important when towing your fifth wheel travel trailer as accidents will bring worse consequences.

Fifth Wheel General Towing Safety Tips

• Practice towing before driving it around on main roads especially when you are new to travel trailer towing. You can practice in vacant lots and set some props for turning and backing practices.

• Do not allow anyone to use your fifth wheel travel trailer.

• Make sure to check the routes before driving off for a trip especially restrictions imposed on bridges and tunnels.

• Make sure to use the trailer hitch system recommended by the manufacturer in towing your travel trailer.

• Moderate speed is recommended allowing less strain on your tow vehicle and RV trailer. Driving faster will cause instability and swaying of your trailer.

• Avoid any sudden stops and starts as much as possible. This will result to skidding, sliding and jack knifing.

• Restrain from sudden steering maneuvers that might cause swaying or excessive side force on your travel trailer.

• Slow down on bumpy roads, railroads and ditches.

• Make sure to make wide turns on curves and corners.

• Refrain from parking on grades as much as possible. Ask someone to guide when parking. Make sure that blocks are placed on the downhill side on your trailer wheels before shifting into Park, place on the parking brake then change into park before taking off your foot from the brake pedal. This sequence in parking is very crucial to ensure that your trailer is not locked in Park because of the excess load on the transmission.

• Uncoupling your fifth wheel travel trail, the blocks must be put at the front and rear side of the trailer. This is to make sure that your trailer does not roll away once the trailer hitch is released.

• Before uncoupling your travel trailer jack stands should be place under the trailer to avoid any injury that may be caused by sudden rotating because of unbalance loads.

Braking while Towing your Fifth Wheel Travel Trailer

• Make sure you have considerable distance before stopping.

• When excessive sway occurs you can activate on your electric trailer brake controller. Attempting to control the trail with the use of tow vehicle brakes may make the sway worse.

• Remember to anticipate the need in slowing down. Shift to lower gear and press on your brakes lightly when reducing speed.

Safety is always important. These simple tips in towing, parking and breaking your fifth wheel travel trailer can guide you when using your trailer.

WEATHER GUARD® Announces New Hi-Side Truck Box

Crystal Lake, IL – March 6, 2012Knaack LLC and WEATHER GUARD® Truck Equipment announces re-designed Hi-Side Truck Boxes. New features of the Hi-Side product line deliver improved security, durability, and organizational solutions for construction, municipal and field service professionals that require frequent and easy access to valuable tools and equipment, while keeping the truck bed open for supplies.

One of the most important new features on the new Hi-Sides is a WEATHER GUARD® exclusive gutter design that channels rain and snow off the box to keep its contents dry.  Along with the full-weather seal, this new gutter design vastly improves weather resistance. In addition, new security enhancements include a new Drill-Resistant Lock Core, which further protects against theft and vandalism. An Attachment Point has been added to the rear of each box to secure or lock down tools and supplies in the truck bed. Hi-Side organization is improved with the addition of a top-mounted, Removable Parts Bin, to keep small parts such as fasteners and components organized inside the box. And productivity is enhanced with adjustable Tool-Less Quick-Release doors that open from 90 degrees to 180 degrees for unrestricted access to tools and equipment.  Heavy-duty stainless steel aircraft-type cables quickly and easily unhook with QuickClips with no tools required.  This feature is especially helpful to contractors stretching to reach up into their Hi-Sides boxes on taller, heavy-duty vehicles.

Existing features of WEATHER GUARD® Hi-Side Truck boxes include a heavy-duty three-point latching system for theft resistance, large stainless steel D-Handles for easy opening, and extra-wide picture frame opening for easy access of larger tools and supplies. Additionally, Hi-Sides feature quick installation with adjustable leg mounting, customizable mounting points to maximize bed space. Further, All Hi-Sides are constructed of heavy-duty steel or diamond plate aluminum, with ARMOR TUF® powder coat paint in either Brite White (steel only), Black or Clear (aluminum only).  All WEATHER GUARD® Hi-Sides are backed by an exclusive Limited Lifetime Warranty.

“The new Hi-Side boxes bring so many new features and enhancements like the exclusive gutter design to an already industry-leading product line,” said Mike Sover, Senior Product Manager for WEATHER GUARD® Truck Products. “Truck storage is all about security, organization and productivity and WEATHER GUARD® Hi-Sides deliver worry-free performance that typically outlast the truck.”

Hi-Sides are available in a variety of sizes to fit most truck makes and models, from 45-1/2” to 96-1/4” in length, and 5.6 to 11.8 cubic feet of capacity. Larger Super-Sides add 2” in height and 3” in depth, and 7.7 to 15.2 cubic feet of capacity. A Steel Jumbo Super-Side is available with 24” height and a whopping 21.4 cubic feet of capacity. Hi-Sides can fit almost any configuration imaginable with quick installation via adjustable leg mounts. Accessories include an adjustable shelf and a parts cabinet.
